Well we had John David's two month well check yesterday and he looks great. He weighed 11 lbs 10.6 oz which is in the 50th percentile and was 23 1/8 inches long which is also in the 50th percentile. His head circumference was 15 5/8 which is in the 25th percentile. His pediatrician, Dr. Tsai (pronounced Tie), who we love, said that he is doing extremely well and that his fine motor skills (gripping with his hands, head/neck strength and mobility, eye contact, etc.) are advanced for his age, which we were thrilled with. We of course already believed as much but it was nice to hear it! ;)
John also had to have his first set of shots (3 injections and one oral) and I am not sure who took it worse John or Mom and Dad! He screamed of course but as soon as we picked him up off the table he settled down and feel asleep. He slept for most of the afternoon (and so did Mom) and was a little fussy, wanting to be held constantly, but otherwise he was fine. He ran a sight fever so we gave him he first dose of Infant Tylenol, which he seemed to enjoy, and that took care of it. By dinnertime he was giggling and giving us big smiles so I guess he doesn't hold us too accountable. To top it off he slept through the night again!
Last night we instituted the Aunt Meredith special swaddle, which utilizes the "Miracle Blanket" (http://www.miracleblanket.com/) in addition to the Aden + Anais muslin blanket (http://www.adenandanais.com/shop/classic.aspx). We have been swaddling John David since we brought him home from the hospital and when he got too strong for the traditional swaddling blankets we upgraded to the Miracle Blanket which kept him pretty snug until last week when he would wake up with both his arms and one or two legs out. So last night we swaddled him in the Miracle Blanket and then did a tradition swaddle over the top with the Aden + Anais muslin blanket and he was snug as he could be and slept from 9:00 pm until 6:15 am! This may seem like a lot of work and even a little bizarre but John loves to be swaddled and I attribute swaddling to his great sleep habits since birth. Of course when he gets out of the special swaddle he is moving to sleep sakes and that will be in end of the swaddle. That will make me a little sad because he looks so cute all wrapped up like a little burrito sleeping peacefully!
Ok I currently have a sleeping baby so I need to get a few things done before he wakes up!
Love to all and be safe wherever you are!

John David Mark: 8 Weeks Old!
John David entered our lives exactly 8 weeks ago today! He is the most wonderful gift God could ever have given us and I thank him daily for our precious little boy. He is doing so well...growing and changing more and more everyday. John is amazing. He has always been a good sleeper at night and now he only wakes his Momma up once at night to eat and promptly falls back to sleep when he is done (and his Mom is incredibly grateful). When John first sees you in the morning (or when he sees David for the first time when he gets home from work) he gives you the biggest smile and it just melts my heart! He is getting better at entertaining himself, which is great when Momma needs to run to the bathroom or make something to eat. He loves to lay in his crib and look at his mobile or on his play mat, smiling, laughing, kicking and pump his arms and legs. We take long walks every day in the stroller and most days he quickly dozes off but every once in a while he will surprise us and gaze up at us with his big blue eyes, smiling and laughing along the way. John already likes to be read to and loves being rocked. He can hold his head up amazingly well and when he is on his tummy he likes to scoot on his belly by kicking his legs.
Of course the last 8 weeks have had their challenges too but we were so lucky to have both Mom and David's Mom here to help us at one point or another for the first 6 weeks (Yes we were sooo spoiled)! I cannot thank them both enough for everything they did for us--from helping with feedings when I was sick, to cleaning our house, cooking us food (especially making David his "Egg McMuffin" every morning) and just loving on our precious baby boy!
Here are a few pictures from the past 8 weeks. Some of you have seen most of these pictures but there are a few new ones too!

One of my favorite pictures of John David. Taken early in the morning after eating with my Blackberry (that is why it is kind of grainy)

New Start....
I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything on this blog. When I originally started, I intended this to be a running story of our life in Athens as a why to keep in touch with everyone back home in addition to our own personal keepsake. Of course after I started working on it I realized our lives were not all that interesting after all and the blog ended up turning into a travel blog highlighting our various trips while living abroad.
My very creative and talented sister-in-law has inspired me, by her wonderfully entertaining blog (http://www.dallasyates.blogspot.com/), to get back to what I originally set out to do and that is to highlight the memorable (and not so memorable) moments in our daily lives (I imagine now that John has entered our lives we will have 1) more readers and 2) our posts will be more interesting).
I have noticed over these past 7 weeks since John David was born that life moves very fast and I hope this blog will make it easier for us (and our few readers) to remember the big and small moments along the way.....
