TGIF

Happy Friday! We have had a busy week here in Athens. David finally got over his cold and his jet lag and both of us have been busy with work. We are very excited it is Friday.

We had some excitement on Wednesday here in Athens. Yimitos the mountain that Vicki and I run on every morning had a fairly substantial forest fire. Stacy took the picture on the left from her front balcony. They live about 6 blocks closer than we do but it was still pretty close. We anticipate that this was the first of many fires to come. It is just so hot and dry it is inevitable. When Vicki and I went up to run on Wednesday morning the police had put out cones to block the road. Vicki said the same thing happened last year when it gets especially hot and dry. Part of the problem is that all of the Greeks smoke and throw their cigarette butts out of the window and the next thing you know half your country is on fire. Should be an interesting Summer. I do have to give them credit because they had multiple planes and helicopters picking up water from the sea and dropping it on the fire so it was put out in a matter of hours.
Not too much planned for this weekend. I am going to try to drag David out of bed on Sunday to go to the beach. He hasn't been to the beach here in Athens yet so it shouldn't be too hard to get him motivated.
On another note...David's Dad has been discharged from the hospital to Meredith's house and is slowly getting better each day. Thank you for all your well wishes and prayers during this difficult time for our family.
Well hope you all had a good week and have a great weekend....Love from Athens!

Happy Monday

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. David got back to Athens on Thursday morning from Raleigh pretty tired and with a bit of a chest cold. He spend most of the weekend sleeping and laying around the house trying to get over his cold and the jet lag. Saturday I got up and went to the grocery store with Vicki and then came home and cleaned the house. I kept it pretty clean while David was gone (imagine that) but I needed to dust and work on the floors. On Sunday I had 7 women over to the house for the brunch. It was really nice and I think everyone had a nice time. David and I spent the rest of the day laying around relaxing. It was pretty nice this weekend weather wise. Sunny and actually not to hot but it was very windy. All of my plants took a beating on the balcony.

Not too much scheduled for this week. I am going to see a movie tonight with some girls which will be fun. I haven't seen a movie here yet and I guess they have an intermission half way through so the Greeks can smoke (or we can go to the bathroom). I should be a fun night!

Well that is all from here. Hope you are all well! Love from Athens....

Γειά σου

Hope you are all doing well. As some of your know David's dad is in the hospital now in Raleigh battling Bacterial Meningitis. David went back to the states on Wednesday to be with him and will be home until next week. David is getting better but he still has a long road ahead of him. Please keep him in your prayers!

Not too much going on in Greece now. I wanted to write a quick entry and post a couple photos from last weekend. The military community at the Embassy held a really nice fundraiser at the Embassy on Saturday night for family members of military men and women who have lost their lives serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. They had a great turnout and it was a lot of fun. There was a raffle and David and I won twice. We won a bottle of Scotch and a bottle of wine. They had a band and the Marines were grilling and had the bar open. It was great to see a bunch of people who we haven't seen in a while.

On Saturday during the day Susan had some of us over to her house for a light lunch and we had a woman come in a give manicures and pedicures which was really nice.

Since David is out of town I am planning on doing some organizing in the house this weekend. I am going to work on the kitchen tonight and some of the closets tomorrow (Yes I know I lead a very exciting life). I am also going to try to catch up with some of you by phone if I can catch you.
